New Brighton's batting has been a revelation this season. Bootle found that out as the champions went down to their first ECB Premier League defeat of the season.

Bootle set a stiff enough task, making 238-8d jn 49 overs with Adam Warren 71*, David Snellgrove 30; Kamran Farooq 4-63, Rudra Singh 3-55. When the home side were 56-4, there looked like there would be only one winner.

Paul Strang and Chris Davies, though, rocked the visitors with an outstanding display that produced 179 for a five wicket win with seven balls left. Strang's 105* came in just 73 balls (4x6s, 14x4s) whilst Davies hit 88 off 87 balls (12x4s, 1x6). The Rakers are now 1 pt behind Northern.

Cockspur Cup

As previously reported New Brighton have been eliminated from the competition by the toss of a coin held at Lords due to the inability of the two sides to agree on a replay date.

Unfortunately the ECB felt that our report of the situation implied criticism of the ECB and felt that the wording used to describe our sentiments toward Bowden was inappropriate.

We would like to stress that we were entirely satisfied with the procedures which led to the toss of a coin in accordance with Cockspur Cup Competition rules and would like to make it clear that at no time did the club have any complaint or criticism of the ECB during their investigation following our complaint against the conduct of Bowden on the day of the original match.

We apologise for any confusion in this matter and inappropriate choice of words and reiterate our critical reaction to the events of May 19th were aimed entirely at Bowden CC and not toward the ECB at any stage.

We now regard this matter closed.

House keeping

Work has begun on repairing the pavillion enclosure with new fencing and a levelling of the uneven ground.
New perimeter fencing will also be installed for security purposes.
